Valuate

Project Dates: 2012-2014

Roles: Lead UI/UX Designer, User Research, User Testing

In 2012, the commercial real estate company REFM hired me to help create their flagship SaaS product, Valuate. The process began with a discovery phase, where I worked with the founder in Washington, D.C., interviewing commercial real estate brokers and investors, potential users of the product.

We performed a small, in person ethnography of a select group of these users, in order to better understand their current workflow, pain points, and opportunities for disruption of the existing, largely desktop-based, valuation tools.

The basic premise for the software was to create a cloud-based valuation tool, where both brokers and investors could upload existing data, and it would be presented in a clean, standardized format. This data could then be manipulated by adjusting … Read more

Hatcheree

Project Date: 2013

Roles: Lead UI/UX Designer, User Research, User Testing

Hatcheree was a nascent entertainment startup; the premise was to share project ideas in progress from well known writers and directors, solicit ideas and feedback, and establish a connection with fans to determine whether a given property had promise to turn into a movie or television series.

I was brought into the project as a lead UI/UX designer, after the startup had initially hired an agency to create a low-fidelity interactive prototype.

With the initial prototypes, Hatcheree was having problems in user tests getting people to understand the goal of the product, which was to get them to engage in giving feedback and ideas to the project author.

We decided to start more or less from the ground-up, and created … Read more

Hippo Education

Project Dates: 2014-2015

Role: Director of Design (prior to this, consulting on UI/UX, branding, content marketing).

In 2014, after a stint as a consultant, I joined the team at Hippo Education, a medical education startup which focuses on audio education for physicians. Hippo’s products keep health care providers  up to date and fulfill their CME (Continuing Medical Education) requirements, and they also make several products for Board Review preparation.

Prior to coming on-board at Hippo, there was no focused effort at making their suite of 9 products coherent and easily navigable, so one of my first tasks was to re-brand the company, and make the user experience of all of the marketing sites intuitive and compelling.

We began site-by-site, wireframing responsive layouts for content and creating interactive mockups in InVision.
